Southland Workers’ Educational Association Inc. is a founding
member of the Federation of WEAs in Aotearoa established in 1915.
Otherwise known as Southland Education, the organisation provides
life-long learning opportunities to people of all ages in Invercargill
city. A variety of courses are currently available including Art,
Drawing, Dressmaking, Patchwork, Paper tole, Yoga, Languages and
Creative Writing. Weekend courses are also offered, in Upholstery,
Felting and other topics as requested. All courses take place at the
recently renovated building in central Invercargill.
In addition Southland Education has recently begun a series of
Sustainable Living workshops in conjunction with the Invercargill City
Council, Wastebusters and Environment Southland. Topics include No Weed
gardening, Solar Energy, Recycling and Alternative fuels.
The Kidzart holiday programme provides a range of Arts workshops at the
end of Terms 1 and 3 each year.
The courses are non-assessed and low cost thanks to the generosity of
our funding organisations.
