Overview of Courses
Main Adult Programme
Southland Education runs a programme of weekly classes in a variety of arts. These courses are open to all persons past school age. Currently classes are available in Art, Drawing, Patchwork, Dressmaking, Upholstery, Yoga, Genealogy, Woodwork, Leadlighting, Spanish, Te Reo Maori, Floral Art, Guitar, Scrapbooking and Digital Photography. Each term several weekend classes are also on offer. Recent subjects include Mosaics, Stone Sculpting and Upholstery.
Suggestions are always welcome on new courses required by the community. Persons interested in tutoring are asked to post a CV to the Manager, Southland Education, WEA Building, 100 Esk Street, Invercargill.

Kidzart
The ever popular Kidzart programme runs twice a year at the end of terms 1 and 3. Various workshops are on offer including Freaky faces, Beastly Bugs, Leadlighting, jewellery and much more – each lasting two hours. With all materials provided in the course fee it is a great opportunity for children to try a variety of arts at minimal cost
Flyers for this programme are distributed to schools about one month before the end of the school term.

Other Programmes
The Pre-school Parent Support Programme at Newfield Kindergarten, which has provided a series of Art/Craft workshops, has been reinstated since cuts in Government funding. A rangeof Art and Craft courses are provided for parents while their little ones are at Kindy.
Opportunity has been provided for Persons with disabilities in the field of Music with a new course entitled “Upbeat.” This course has been run in conjunction with Idea services. Tutor Natalie Hughes inspires the students in music appreciation and enjoyment.
Also in collaboration with Idea services, art classes are on offer for persons with disabilities.
